What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?

There are so many ways in which creativity plays a role in my work. Probably the most important way that creativity plays a role is how I use my intuitive nature to connect one on one with a child or adult in such a way that they relax and show their best self in a portrait. It takes creativity to draw out the best in a person’s innermost self and translate that into a portrait.

How does your creative work contribute to the growth and stability of the Creative Economy?

I’d like to think that the work I do enriches the lives of my clients and their families. Having personal memories in the form of photographic portraits is how I share my creative gift. All creative entrepreneurs, regardless of the media in which they work, contribute greatly to the enrichment and enjoyment of our lives.

What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?

The best part of my job is getting a big hug, or seeing the heartfelt emotion on the face of a client when I’ve exceeded their expectations and captured a portrait or series of portraits for them. It’s also wonderful to walk around town and run into clients, past and present, and feel connected to a larger community.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

What many people do not know about the business, is that a few years ago, I launched an entirely new line of mixed media painted portraits that resemble (and rival) the look and feel of real oil fine art paintings.

The process starts with a beautiful portrait in the studio, is then hand-enhanced with individual brushstrokes to transform the portrait into the look of a painting, and is later finished off with real oils and acrylics over a stretched canvas. The final art piece is stunning.
