Tell us a bit about you and what you do?

I make accessories for cats and cat lovers of exceptionally quirky taste

What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?

There are very few parts of my job now that aren't creative and that's why I love it so much. Some examples that involve creativity can be designing cat accessories from ideas in my head or figuring out how to put glasses on a cat without them maiming me for photos. I enjoy the process of figuring out non-traditional problems with non-traditional solutions.

Why do you feel a healthy creative economy is important to a successful community?

A healthy creative economy is important to communities because it is one of the most distinctive positive ways to help define what a community's values are. When creative contributions are valued and respected, everyone in the community is better off for it since solutions to problems come in many more forms than just inside the box thinking.

What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?

I love the city of Salem and the North Shore and being involved in running a business here has made me more intimately familiar with many aspects of the area. From the local regulars who have become friends and acquaintances over time as they stop by my pop up booths to re-up on cat toys, to the people I have met that help keep the creative community running including other entrepreneurs and creative-types; I would not have made these connections so easily in other ways. Also, Salem is the Witch City and cats are typically recognized as the Witch's familiar - I can't think of a better place for my Kitty business to be!

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

I was an engineer for 15 years before I found my calling to become a catrepreneur. I've always been some form of "problem solver", but as I mentioned before now I like to focus on non traditional cat problems instead of the types of issues I studied in engineering school. Nobody ever guesses that I used to be an engineer that didn't know me at the time- so I guess that's surprising. Also surprising: my three cats haven't killed me yet.... not even once :)
