In your words... Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.
I am a Filipina American mural artist & illustrator based in Salem, MA. I specialize in chalk & painted murals for any walls, windows, or boards that could use a little love or flair. I use colors, patterns, typography, and humor to spread joy & positivity through my work. I am here to help you transform your space into an effective & aesthetically pleasing place where people want to be.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.
I have always been a creative soul. No matter what I do or where I go, I find myself pulled into a creative orbit. Once I stopped denying that gravitational pull, I embraced my love for the arts and my innate need to spread positivity. My work allows me to share my passions & talents with my community by helping others bring their visions to life.
What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)
I am a firm believer that art brings communities together and has the power to connect us to one another and affect change. My goal is to spark happiness in the people that view my work and to transform spaces into something not only functional, but aesthetically inviting, unique, and associated with positivity. How wonderful is it that something as simple as a color pallet can affect someone's mood? Art that is created by hand, like mural or chalk work, provide a humanizing element to a space and allow us to associate that space with community & care. I believe that in the face of seemingly never-ending technological advances, we need creativity in our communities now more than ever. The wonders of a screen, however convenient, can quickly become impersonal, when what we need more of is connection.
What was the last video you watched that made an impact on you?
The last video I watched that made an impact on me was of Jim Carey's 2014 commencement speech where he says "you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love."
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
I had never worked with chalk prior to working at Gulu in 2018! I needed to let out creative energy and I was using what was available to me: a ton of chalkboards. I have fallen in love with chalk since then!
