In your words... Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.

We are a brand new, flexible event space right in downtown Peabody. We're in a historic building (an old Strand Theater) with modern amenities and an open, loft-style industrial vibe.

We love to host weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, corporate meetings and parties, fundraisers and galas, photo shoots, banquets, trade shows and expos, classes, workshops, and retreats.

Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.

Olio is proud to be led by a dynamic mother-daughter duo with decades of event planning and business experience.

Sarah had been running her event planning company for several years when she recognized a significant gap in the market; clients were looking for a non-traditional event venue flexible enough to accomodate all kinds of functions and professionally operated and equipped with modern amenities. Sarah recruited Ellen to join her in this new venture as a partner, and they began a three-year journey of searching for the right commercial real estate investment, securing all of the necessary permits and loans, and building out the space of their dreams.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community?

We're thrilled at Olio to have a "blank slate" space. Truly, if you can dream it, it can be done at Olio. This should allow any creative to come in and customize the space in a way that truly reflects the specific event and style and goal of that individual. That's the brilliance of this space - that it can look so different from use to use.

At the heart of our business is community. An event space is a gathering space for community, be it to celebrate important accomplishments or to support local artisans or to practice yoga together.

What was the last book you read OR What was the last video you watched that made an impact on you?

When I find myself up at night thinking about our new business, I try to read to settle my mind. I just recently finished "The Great Alone" about growing up in Alaska. This story about America's "last frontier" really stuck with me.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

I went to school to be a teacher and even have my Masters in Education. I never expected to move into event planning and, eventually, into wedding planning. It was an unexpected journey to get here, but now I can't imagine doing anything else! Also, I have a six month old. Our daughter was born the same month as we bought the building at 43 Main Street.
